(Alectoris Chukar)

Chukar is one of the most commonly kept and bred game birds, the main reason being that they are very easy to keep and breed in captivity. Chukar are raised not only for hunting but also for release to help sustain the wild chukar population.  At Longmeadow Game Resort, we offer some of the best Chukar hunting in Colorado.  Come hunt with us!

General Information

There are fourteen subspecies of chukar that range from Turkey, the Mediterranean islands, China, Iran, Russia and south into Pakistan and Nepal. Chukar has also been successfully introduced into western North America, The Hawaiian Islands, and to our European friends in England and New Zealand.

Chukars, being mostly gray all over with a black band from just below the neck, up to the eyes. Another distingushing feature of the chukar is that it has several black bars on their flanks. The sexes are similar in most ways, a few easy ways to tell them apart is, the males appear to be somewhat larger and the have smaller knobs on their legs than the females. Chuckars have also been known to hybridize with other members of the Alectoris genus.
